HOLY SPIRIT AND HIS ESSENCE
Part 3: Holy Spirit in tongues and power
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8. The coming of the Holy Spirit brings undeniable power. If you have ever read about any anointed man, the secret of the anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit. He is the power behind the mighty works of the early Apostles.
Through the years, God has used men who knew what it meant to be endued with the power of the Holy Spirit. Evan Roberts, the instrument for the revival at Whales knew what it meant to possess the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Charles G. Finney took short cuts to the heart of people through prayer and anointing of the Holy Spirit. D. L Moody knew what it was to be endued with power from on high. John Wesley knew that too. Space and time will not allow me speak of the great servants of God of our own time.
One thing is common to them all – Power. The coming of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life is preceded with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. That was why at the time the waiting believers got baptized in the book of Acts 2:1-4, the Bible says “…And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Speaking in tongues after the initial experience is a blessing of the Holy Spirit that every Spirit-filled believer enjoys and it is Biblical, but, the demonstration of power remains the real essence of the Holy Spirit. While it is possible to fake tongues, power that is of God cannot be faked. Get the Holy Spirit and change your world for God.
