PATIENTLY GROW

As I write this article, the stories of few individuals came to mind. First, is the story of a flourishing ministry which came to limelight not too long. In one of the sermons, I realized that the minister had been on the job for around fifteen years without break. Our own Okonjo Iweala is celebrated around the world today, but it is on record that she underwent a rigorous process, from schooling that took her up to doctorate level and the personal character development that earned her such an enviable position. Sometimes I was reading through one of the books of a renowned leadership experts, John C. Maxwell, and he said often time when he stands to speak in conferences and the light is beaming so brightly across the hall, many desires such an experience but do not know the many travails behind the scene that brought about such encomium and the bright lights. Indeed, they have all paid their dues.

How it will be good for those of us coming behind to know that there is no shortcut to success in life. You don’t expect to become a hero overnight without paying your dues. It doesn’t matter what career you are into; academics (student), sports, business, or even ministry. You must learn to wait, and while you wait, be diligent in your business!

Avoid the trend we see in our world today where people want to blow rather than grow. Whatever will last is not built in a hurry. Patience is needed. Jesus gave examples of two people who built a house. The wise one built his house on a rock while the other built on the sand. When the rain, flood and wind came, the house on the rock stood firm while the one on the sand fell (Read Matt 7:24-27). Why in a hurry to blow? Apply God’s word to your life and patiently watch your edifice grow. That is the path of lasting success.
