BIBLICAL TRUTHS (Part 4)

Once the devil was walking along with one of his cohorts. They saw a man ahead of them pick up something shiny. “What did he find?” asked the cohort.

“A piece of the truth,” the devil replied.

“Doesn’t it bother you that he found a piece of the truth?” asked the cohort.

“No,” said the devil, “I will see to it that he makes a religion out of it.”

Truth taken out of context and twisted is the basis for many false religions. That is why Jesus Christ responded to His disciples who wanted to know the signs of the end of the world. “And Jesus answered and said unto them. Take heed that no man deceive you.” Mathew 24:4. Again in verse 11, He says “And many false prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many.” John the Beloved in I John 4:1 also warned that “…many false prophets are gone out into the world.” The number one and immediate sign that we are near to the end of the world is deception by false prophets.

False religion is to shun the truth and walk in error whether deliberately or otherwise. This is rampant today because of the influx

of many pseudo-gospel preachers who are currently in the world. During my graduate days, my University (OAU, Ile-Ife) had a reputation for being the second most religious campus in the world. As an academic staff in my current University, I bear witness to the fact that the campus community is still about the most religious socio-space as at today. But sadly, the college campuses still remains the hotspot of most religious inventions. That is why truth-loving believers must not surrender this territory to the Devil.

We have focused on Biblical truths in the last three editions of this article. Now we want to state that there is no way to love and follow God without loving and following the truth. I say like Apostle John the Beloved in III John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Winston Churchill also said, “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.” That may be a common response to truth, but it places those who respond thusly on the road to tragedy and destruction. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.” Hebrew 6:9.
