WISDOM FOR THE YOUTHS
I spend a bulk of my time counselling and interacting with youths. A common feedback that I get on why youths behave the way they do is simply that they are youths and must behave as youths. Generally, youths are known for all forms of social vices, and they see the time of their youth as the right time to engage in all sort of things. My friend, it doesn’t have to be! That many are doing it does not make it right and less destructive. Being a youth is not a license to engage in what will ruin your life.
A research sometimes ago revealed a statistical horror among the youths in one part of the world. 1,000 unwed teenage girls become mothers, 1,106 teenage girls get abortion, 4,219 teenagers contract a sexually transmitted disease, 500 adolescents begin using drugs, and 1,000 youths begin drinking alcohol. 2,200 students drop out of school and so on. Some may choose to go these paths, but for you reading this article, preparing for the great future ahead of you is a responsibility that cannot accommodate any form of distractions.
To avoid the danger of future regret, the Bible admonishes on the need to “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). For every sinful action in life, there is an evil day coming. A time of regret of the wayward life. At such a time, one would wish those evil deeds were never committed.
A time is coming “when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” This is the time when the cup of your iniquity is full and you will no longer have any delight in those things that excited you. Before this happens, God is asking you “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 4:22, 23). Pray now to accept Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour and begin to live your life to please God.
