CITY WITHOUT KING (Part 2)
In 1978, the story was told of an ungrateful son, Thomas Hansen of Boulder Colorado, who sued his parents for $350,000 on grounds of “malpractice of parenting.” Mom and Dad had botched his upbringing so badly, he charged in his suit, that he would need years of costly psychiatric treatment. We still have such ungrateful sons and daughters today who resist control, not only from parents but they say no to any form of instruction, guidance and admonition from those who wished them well.
Sadly, the last chapter and the last verse in the book of Judges ended on a trembling manner and with this painful note “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25. Many young folks today see the campus as an escape route from any form of control. The campus community is a city without king. No one is there to monitor their everyday life, not even the Lecturers. That is why many students engage in a lot of atrocities and sinful practices. That is why you will see a young teenage girl who is barely above the puberty age going to spend days or weeks with a guy.
The guy also who awaits monthly stipends from home goes ahead to squander his parent’s hard earned money on a girl contrary to the expectation of his parent. May God forgive you for this terrible sin against God and your parents whether as the guy or the lady. But then, that is what you find in a city without king.
In a city without king no one is there to set a standard of behavior talk less punish for sins committed, but know that nothing destroys destinies faster than being left without a king over your life. No wonder the Bible says “…a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” Prov. 29:15. The first step to take now before you bring shame to not only your parents but to yourself and the society at large is to make Christ the King over your heart – That is your first city. That is when you can be different in that environment and in that city where there is no king, where everyone does that which is right in his own eyes.
