DIVINE RETRIBUTION
During the time I was observing the one year mandatory service to my father land as a Nigerian graduate, I was made to open an account with a bank through which I got my monthly allowance from the government. It was a bank I would not patronize if I were to make the choice by myself. So, when I completed the scheme, after one year, I abandoned the bank account since then. It’s over a decade now but surprisingly, the bank still sends monthly alerts to me. First, they will credit my account with some kobo (cent) and immediately take back from the same account with a debit alert.
It is often said that ‘life is give and take’, but many a times, it is the opposite way. When you take, you must be ready to pay back. Sometimes, you even pay back much more than you have enjoyed. Imagine, Esau enjoyed only one morsel of meal, but it cost him his birthright, and his entire destiny. No matter how enjoyable that sin may seem, the price you will pay will be far way higher than the pleasure. Many times, the punishment for sin does not come immediately like in the case of Reuben
not come immediately like in the case of Reuben “And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:” Genesis 35:22. When Reuben defiled his father’s concubine, his father heard about it but he kept mute about it. Reuben must have thought that it had ended there, but just before their father passed on, he gathered all the children to tell them what their later end would be.
To Reuben their father said: [Genesis 49:3-4] Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:4 Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.
Be prepared! Sin will credit your account with all the pleasure that you desire, but your debit alert will drop. If you are sold out to atrocities it’s not for free, you will certainly pay back in full except you repent.
