The basic characteristics of living thing is the ability to grow. When we refer to growth, it is not just about physical growth, there is a dimension of growth that speaks to the mind. If you are going to live up to your full potentials in life, you must keep growing. You must keep moving from one level of competence to another, you must develop capacity to handle greater responsibilities, you must continually invest to sharpen your intellectual and mental ability, and the key to making that happen is continuous learning.
Learning is inevitable in the journey of growth. No one grows by just dreaming. Only a continuous exercise of the mind and investment of time in meaningful learning can cause growth to happen. If you are going to grow into a better version of yourself, you must leverage on the power of learning. If you are going to develop new skills and become relevant in a changing world, learning is inevitable for you. If you are going to become an irresistible force to reckon with, then you must be a perpetual learner. If you are going to command a mighty influence, because no one follows a novice, I recommend learning for you before anything else. Learning comes through enquiries. You must always be curious to know. Someone said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go.” You can see the order. The day you stop reading, you stop knowing, and that is where learning ends. That is why the Bible says, “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good;” Proverbs 19:2.
You either take up the challenge and open yourself up to a world of possibilities or give in to your narrow-mindedness and remain insignificant in life. Leave the camp of the people who have given up in their quest for progress, just because they stopped learning. The fire you need to embark on a fresh journey of growth is the desire to subject yourself to learning and never stop. “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.” Proverbs 18:1. I move!
