Something that has become a competition in our home is the early morning prayer for the children. Whenever our children wake up, the first thing they do is to make their way to our room and then kneel down and I place my hand on them individually to pray for them. They rarely miss this every morning, even with sleep in their eyes. Now it is a matter of who comes first. Our younger daughter would usually run ahead of her elder sister to make sure she kneels down to receive the early morning blessing first, and whenever her elder sister runs ahead of her we will have to pet her to receive her own prayer for that day. They compete during other prayer sessions and all.
It is a blessing when children understand the importance of prayer early in life. There is nothing compared when we teach them to pray and we equally prophesy into their lives for now and for the future. We may not always go everywhere with them, but the prayers we have prayed over them will continue with them. When they grow to become individuals, who trust in the power of prayer on any matter of life, then we have truly raised them in the way of the Lord. There is no other way to lay a solid foundation for them in life than this. “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” Ps 127:3-5.
Do not make a mistake to think that the Bible is talking about just any children. Only praying children can become arrows in the hands of any mighty man. Only praying children can stand to challenge the enemies at the gate. What a disaster to fail to raise praying children. What have you made a matter of priority for your children? Access to the best education in the world, or living in the best country on earth? Absolutely, their future is not yet secured without adequate investment of prayer. Satan is out to make disciples. Let this call for vigilance and discipline to fortify your children with the amour of prayer.
