OVERCOMING SECRET SINFUL HABITS (Part 2)

During my undergraduate days in the University, a fellow once opened up about his addiction to masturbation, and the Pastor put together a small group to organize a special prayer session for him. I was part of that small group that prayed for this particular person. I can remember how fervently we prayed and conducted a sort of deliverance for him that night at the University sports centre. It appears as if his struggle had ended, only to discover that the young man was far from being free.

Before I address God’s provisions for your deliverance in part 3 from the yoke of any form of terrible sin, give me your ears first. God’s provision will only work and become activated when your will is absolutely involved. Do not be quick to push the whole responsibility to God while you remain like an empty sack which cannot stand. You are an important part of this deliverance equation. While God is always ready to deliver and liberate, the actual deliverance begins with you. You must personally come to the end of yourself and find hatred in engaging in that secret sinful habit. As long as you still find satisfaction engaging in that thing you can never be free. Hate it! Meditate on Deut. 21:18-21

18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the

voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you;

That habitual sin is the stubborn and rebellion son that is bringing distress and tears to your life. It is time to lay hold on it and let it be permanently executed from your life. It takes self-denial to deliver your son to be stoned to death. In the same way, the urge for that secret sinful habit will die when you deny yourself, starve your flesh and take your stand for God.

 Prayer: Lord, deliver me from myself in Jesus name.
