LITTLE FOLLY THAT COSTS MUCH
“Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour” (Ecclesiastes 10:1). When a man acts without thinking and does things, only to later regret the consequences of such actions, that is nothing but folly.
In Genesis 25:29-34, Esau returned from the field and he was dying of hunger. “Sell me this day thy birthright”, Jacob named his price. There are people like Jacob today who are after the most precious things in your life. Like Satan, they are thieves who have come to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10). The sole aim is to take your birthright and destroy your destiny.
Unfortunately, Esau despised his birthright like many of our young people do today. The position of honour and inheritance meant nothing to him. Out of folly he was desperate to have the pottage of Jacob at any cost. Thus, he mortgaged his birthright. It is shameful today to see our young ladies and gentlemen despise their
birthright and lose sight of the precious destinies ahead of them. As a student, when you allow the fear of failure make you result to examination malpractices or you sell your body for favour of any sort, you are mortgaging your destiny like Esau. If Esau knew that ordinary pottage would cost him his birthright in reality, he wouldn’t have carelessly listened to his brother. His little folly did cost him more than what he bargained for. What you often think is ordinary may cost you your God-ordained destiny.
We all know the regrettable end of Esau. When his folly left him, he tearfully sought to have back his lost possession, but it was too late. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” Heb 12:16-17. My dear friend, the opportunity to repent from your life of folly may soon slip away from you. “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” Isaiah 55:6. ).
