JESUS OR GAINS?

Researchers have found almost no correlation between income levels and happiness. Between 1957 and 1990 income levels in the U.S. doubled. Yet at the same period, people’s levels of happiness did not increase. In fact, reports of depression actually increased tenfold. Incidence of divorce, suicide, alcoholism and drug abuse also rose dramatically. It could not have been a different situation at the time when Judas Iscariot betrayed the King of kings at such a ridiculous amount. In the account of his betrayal of his master (Matt 26:14-16), he went unto the Chief Priests, and said “What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you?”

And from that time, he sought opportunity to betray him (Jesus).” That was the quest for personal gain that landed Judas in hell. He sealed his eternal doom by delivering his master to

be killed for thirty pieces of silver.

When you place personal gain above your love for Christ you are not different from Judas. The gain could be in form of money, position, pleasure, power, opportunities, success and so on. The moment Judas fixed his eyes on the thirty pieces of silver, he sought every opportunity to betray Jesus. What have you set your eyes upon that is constantly drifting you from His love? Without Jesus all your gains will become losses.

As a student, do you sell your body because of what you will get? Do you engage in examination malpractices just because of the monetary gains? Do not end your life like Judas who never lived to enjoy the gain of his betrayal. He lost his life at last. Renounce every gain of unrighteousness and accept Christ today.
