President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. The moment it went into effect on January 1, 1863, every slave living in the Confederacy was legally free. But until they knew of their freedom, the legal fact had no impact on their lives. In fact, Union soldiers carried hundreds of thousands of copies of the proclamation and passed them out as they made their way through the South during the war.
The purpose of Christ’s coming to earth is to set us free from sin. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21. This fact is still hidden to many people today. Satan is doing everything possible to manipulate the mind of people from knowing this truth. “But even if our gospel is [in some sense] hidden [behind a veil], it is hidden [only] to those who are perishing; among them the god
of this world [Satan] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving to prevent them from seeing the illuminating light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” II Corinthians 4:3-4 [Amplified Version].
That is why you see people celebrate Easter year in year out, but are still without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world. If this describes your life, do not delay any further. It is time to break the yoke of deception that has long held you captive.
A Songwriter captures the whole essence of Christ’s coming this way “You came from heaven to earth, to show the way, from the earth to the cross my debt you pay, from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky Lord I lift your name on high.” You must recognize this fact and allow Him into your heart (Revelation 3:20).
